Dear Sarah,
Today the news broke that the Leader of the Labour Party wrote a foreword for J. A. Hobson’s Imperialism: A Study – a book which contains deeply offensive anti-Semitic passages.
I’m sure you were as appalled as I was when you learned of this.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews have written to Jeremy Corbyn saying ‘this is pure and unequivocal racism and there can be no apology for it’.
You have quite rightly said: “The rise of hate crime and antisemitism across the UK is alarming”.
In line with this, I believe it is appropriate and necessary for you to issue a statement condemning the actions of Jeremy Corbyn’s endorsement of this racist book. I am sure this would be appreciated by your many Jewish constituents who will be reassured that this kind of disgusting racism will not be tolerated in your Party and by any representative of our home town.
On anti-Semitism, you have also said: “As MPs we have to act.”
Today is Yom Hashoah, observed as Israel's day of commemoration for the approximately six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Today of all days, my question to you is: will you act? Will you act on behalf of your many Jewish constituents and speak for our diverse and tolerant town?
I look forward to your very swift condemnation of Jeremy Corbyn’s actions.
Kind Regards,
Mario Creatura, Conservative Candidate for Croydon Central
