Hugely grateful to Mole Valley Conservatives for inviting me to speak to them last night.
I was particularly chuffed to have been able to trade a few tales with the fascinating Brendon Sewill about our respective times working in and around Downing Street.
Brendon joined the Conservative Research Department in 1952, and was its Director from 1964 until 1970. He moved to the Treasury in September 1970 to be Special Assistant to Anthony Barber MP, Ted Heath’s Chancellor of the Exchequer. He served in that role until March 1974.
Among many other achievements and incredible stories, he told us about an event in Downing Street in 1970 where he met Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins!
Many thanks to everyone who attended for making me feel so welcome.
