Under the Conservatives, Westfield and Hammerson announced a landmark deal to invest £1.5 billion local to redevelop the Whitgift Centre. The deal would have created 5,000 jobs. It was due to open in 2018.
But now under Labour, the plans have been reviewed.
As your Prospective MP, I have met with Westfield/Hammerson and they tell me that the uncertainty and instability caused by Parliament – and our Labour MP – in refusing to deliver a Brexit Deal has jeopardised the scheme.
By blocking a Brexit Deal, our Labour MP has created uncertainty which has jeopardised local jobs.
If elected as your MP, I will help deliver Westfield by voting FOR the Brexit Deal which will give the certainty which Westfield needs to come to Croydon.
We cannot risk years of uncertainty under Jeremy Corbyn and another EU divisive referendum.
Croydon is in my DNA - I was born in Mayday and grew up localy. The choice at this election couldn't be clearer:
Corbyn's Labour MP has no plans for Westfield
- Drift and delay with Westfield for the past two years
- Potentially years more uncertainty with a divisive second referendum
- Risking 5,000 local jobs by having no plan for our local economy
Or you can back my local plan for investment and jobs
- A dynamic local plan to help our local community
- Economic certainty by delivering a Brexit Deal
- Help to create the environment to stabilise the country, and deliver 5,000 local jobs
On 12th December let's get Brexit done so we can stabilise our country and move on to the priorities that really matter to you. We can only do that with a Conservative majority government, and by you voting Conservative on 12th December.
