Three Conservative councillors helped fund a local charity that uses music to reach some of Croydon’s most vulnerable young people.
White Hut Studios, based in New Addington, delivers music workshops at primary, secondary and further education level, also working to help young offenders and those in youth services. They have been given £3,000 from Conservative Councillors Jeet Bains, Mario Creatura and Andy Stranack to increase their ability to deliver this effective mentoring service.
Miriam Thompson, co-director at White Hut, welcomed the support: “White Hut was started to inspire young people to write their thoughts, use their imagination and build songs, working as part of a team or as an individual and in doing so this will build their confidence and knowledge of music, whilst learning and having fun.
“We work with children of all abilities, but see the greatest benefit to those that are hardest to reach, often coming from very vulnerable circumstances. We use the power of music to help young people understand the importance of working as part of a team or as an individual, to build up confidence, perseverance, self-discipline and much more.
“We really can’t thank the Conservative councillors enough for their support. The funds they’ve donated will help us to reach more of Croydon’s most vulnerable young people, helping them to reach their fullest potential. Thank you!”
White Hut believe that working together in the community is more important now than ever before - and that's why they work closely with SENCOs and family liaison officers, with each workshop giving young people the opportunity to learn the process of song writing, recording vocals and music production. White Hut Studios also offer African culture workshops, where children get to write and record Afrobeat music with sessions led by MOBO nominee Silvastone.
