The poor driving, parking and far too frequent road rage incidents outside Chipstead Valley Primary has gone on long enough.
A plan is being developed by Surrey County Council - I visited with representatives from Croydon Council, Surrey County Council and the school to speak with local residents and to see for ourselves how bad it is.
I’m pleased to be working across the Coulsdon/Reigate border with County Councillor Luke Bennett to solve this for our residents. It cannot be allowed to continue.
Cllr Bennett writes:
On Friday afternoon, I held a meeting outside Chipstead Valley Primary School with Surrey County Council Surrey Highways (Road safety) Officers, the School Chair of Governors, the Chipstead Residents' Association Chair, local residents and my Cllr colleague from across the Surrey <> London Borough of Croydon boundary, Cllr Mario Creatura. The purpose of the meeting was for Council Officers to witness the road safety concerns, the parking problems, traffic congestion and the general 'chaos' / road rage that is periodically reported to me. Officers were in plain clothes with no high-vis jackets etc, in order that they witnessed the situation as it is, without any modification by road users. It's fair to say that all the above were thoroughly witnessed (!) and the Officers headed off for their weekends with a clear picture of just how bad the road scene is at this location and an overview of what could potentially mitigate the situation. I look forward to their report and recommendations.
I'm grateful to all those who attended / participated, and I have taken the opportunity to report a number of maintenance issues that I noted in the immediate area outside the school during the visit.
