Just over a year ago I was chosen to be the Conservative candidate for Croydon Central.
Yesterday 21,175 people in my hometown chose to put their faith in me - I am sorry that I was not successful but I will be forever grateful to every one of them.
It’s been an incredible year. We’ve spoken to many thousands and ran a positive, energetic campaign that I am proud of.
Huge thanks to my team for all they’ve sacrificed for the campaign. Their time, counsel and good humour kept me going. They’re total legends, every one of them.
And a massive thanks to my local Conservative family and all those who helped the campaign. Every leaflet delivered, every street pounded and door knocked - it’s a huge team effort. I couldn’t have done it without you all.
Special thanks must go to my family and my unbelievably patient, supportive, kind wife Amy. They cheered me on at the hustings, they forced me to rest when I didn’t want to (but needed to!), and they were with me every step of the way. Thank you x
Across the UK so many unbelievably talented friends have been elected. I know they’ll smash it. Our Parliament is lucky to have each and every one of them.
Thanks also to the other candidates. While we disagree on policy we were all working for Croydon and treated each other with respect.
Congratulations to Sarah. A great Croydon MP once said that ‘your successes will be the town’s successes’. I love Croydon and so I wish her well in representing our hometown going forward.
Today is a day to rest and recuperate with the family. But on Monday I’ll be back in Croydon Town Hall to continue fighting for my hometown.
It has so much potential just waiting to be unleashed!
I’m from Croydon, and I’ll always work for Croydon.
