By now you will have probably heard about the decision by Greene King to put a much loved local pub, The Albert Tavern, up for sale.
I was born in Croydon and have lived here my entire life – I lived in Love Lane for many years. I went to school around the corner at St Thomas Becket, learned to ride my bike in the country park and learned to swim in South Norwood pools.
This community matters to me, and I know how important local institutions like The Albert Tavern are to everyone in South Norwood.
I’ve contacted Greene King who tell me that the pub was marketed at an open day recently and that there was significant interest in it. There is a real risk that it will be demolished and turned into yet more flats in our local area.
The local community have really rallied, and set up a campaign to save The Albert Tavern. Do please sign it, get involved with the campaign and share it with your friends and neighbours.

Whatever happens to The Albert Tavern, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that it should remain a local pub – and one that’s supported by the South Norwood community. The pub remains open and is trading as usual so please try to pop along and show your appreciation for such an important local establishment.
